Testimonials

This course is a “must” for therapists entering the feeding arena. It allows the beginner to both assess and treat the oral motor structures without putting the client at risk. It allows the experienced therapist to have skills addressing specific muscle groups . I am very pleased and honored to have learned these skills.

Thank you Debra Beckman!

I want you to know that I have been using your oral motor exercises during treatment sessions on out patient basis and the inpatient OT team at MUSC has come up with an oral motor protocol based on your research. I am doing some inpatient training and was pleased to see that this protocol is a standard intervention used with all infants and children with feeding issues.

Thank you Debra!

Today was my first day back at work. While I did not collect baselines yet (I still need some more practice especially on the tongue & soft palate observations), I felt like I was wearing amazing new glasses. Prior to your course, I downloaded all the definitions from your website and already knew one student had that exaggerated smile. When I saw her this morning, I noticed that her tongue likely rests below her jawline. Guess what, she has major motor planning problems! Now I have a new insight into why she speaks so slowly and with such effort. I have several other students who have feeding/mouthing/drooling issues which I suspect are related to weakness in the oral motor muscles. I am sure I will learn more as I collect the baselines.

I am a careful consumer of continuing ed and I think your course was a great use of my time and dollars.

I would like to complement you on your outstanding workshop this past weekend. I wish I had received such practical information earlier in my career (like in graduate school). Thank you for the sleek evaluation protocol, treatment techniques and hands on practice. I walked away with tools I can use with almost every child on my caseload.

I have had great success in utilizing the Beckman Protocol with my caseload. I primarily work with children on the Autism Spectrum and adding your protocol to my treatment programs has been a positive experience for myself, the families, and most of all the children. Thank you!

I attended your workshop in NJ this past weekend, and it was wonderful, helpful information, well-presented. I tried the assessment on one of my guys who has been resistant to input to the oral structures in the past. However, in working with him this week, he tolerated everything. I explained everything as we did it, and he followed along with the illustrations in the manual. He has open mouth posture at rest, with only the two back molars making contact when he bites. So I am very excited he's tolerating the assessment and hoping I'll be able to increase that space behind the molars so he can have a more functional bite, and close that mouth!

Thanks for a wonderful workshop. Six therapists from our facility attended, and we're helping each other with what we've learned.

Nothing has ever worked like your Oral Motor Protocol. It helps better than anything I have ever used. Thank you so so so much for sharing your work with all of us. Why don’t they provide this in our undergraduate studies? I wish I had learned this in school instead of midway through my career.

I was at your workshop last week in Grand Rapids. Thanks for all the great information. I am noticing so many students with "tight lips" today! I can’t wait to start doing those baselines!

I am very intrigued with how the body works AS A WHOLE. I have always looked at the mouth as a separate entity, but you really made me think about how one aspect of the body affects another.

Thanks so much for your input!
